Iomega Quik Sync 2 settings

Iomega Quik Sync 2 software will automatically back up your files, once you have completed the Quik Sync 2 Setup application. You do not need to run Iomega Quik Sync 2 again unless you wish to change your settings.

To change your settings, open Iomega Quik Sync 2 in the same manner as described in the section "Starting Iomega Quik Sync 2 for the first time." You will only see the Iomega Quik Sync 2 Setup application the first time Quik Sync 2 is opened. The next time Iomega Quik Sync 2 is opened, you will see a simple control panel with three tabs: General, Advanced, and Scheduling.

The General Tab

The General tab manages the very basic functions of Iomega Quik Sync 2. In this screen, you can turn Iomega Quik Sync 2 on and off, select the backup folders, and select the location of your Quik Sync 2 backup disk.

PC

Iomega Quik Sync 2 Monitoring

The Iomega Quik Sync 2 setting will allow you to turn Quik Sync 2 on and off. Iomega Quik Sync 2 is on by default. While turned on, Iomega Quik Sync 2 will scan your specified folder(s) for updated files and copy them to your Quik Sync 2 disk.

Source

The Source setting allows you to choose which folders you want to back up. Use the add/remove button to customize your folder selections. When you add or remove folders, Iomega Quik Sync 2 will present you with a window to let you choose folders from your hard drive or network volumes.

The Add/Remove Window (PC)

After clicking on the add/remove button, you will see a window that will allow you to customize your source folders. To add a source folder, browse to it and select it in the left-hand window, then click the add button. To remove a source folder, select it in the right-hand window and click the remove button.

The Add Window (Mac)

After clicking on the add button, you will see a window that will allow you to add a source folder. Browse to the folder you want to add and click the select button at the bottom of the window. After clicking on the select button, you can select the add button again to add more folders.

CAUTION! If you want to use Iomega Quik Sync 2 on a Macintosh to back up a network folder(s), make sure that your Macintosh is the only computer using Iomega Quik Sync 2 to back up your selected network folder(s).

Destination

The Destination setting allows you to select the Iomega drive to which you want your files backed up.

Protect/Unprotect Disk (or Set Protection)

This will launch the IomegaWare protection window so that you can add or remove protection from your disk. If the disk is protected, Iomega Quik Sync 2 will prompt you for a password before writing to the disk.

The Advanced Tab

The Advanced tab manages the features that determine how you interact with Iomega Quik Sync 2.

Mac®
PC

Access (PC Only)

This check box determines whether or not you have an animated Iomega Quik Sync 2 icon in your system tray (usually located in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen).

Revisions

With revisions off, Iomega Quik Sync 2 will replace your backed up files with their newest versions. With revisions on, Iomega Quik Sync 2 will add a numbered file to the target disk every time the source document changes. You can set the number of revisions up to 99.

IMPORTANT: Revisions are only saved on the Iomega Quik Sync 2 backup disk. Iomega Quik Sync 2 will not keep revisions on your hard drive.

It's important to understand how your files will be numbered when revisions are turned on. For example, if you have the number of revisions set to 5 and you save a file called My Document.doc to your hard drive, your files will be numbered My Document (1).doc, My Document (2).doc, My Document (3).doc, etc. When the revision numbering reaches your predetermined maximum, in this case 5, only that number of revisions will be kept. Earlier revisions will be discarded. In this example, when My Document (6).doc is saved, My Document (1).doc will be deleted from the Iomega Quik Sync 2 disk.

File Type Filters

You can use this feature to prevent Iomega Quik Sync 2 from backing up certain types of files. If you are backing up files from an application that uses temporary files, you may want to use this feature to keep Iomega Quik Sync 2 from backing up all of the temporary files.

PC

After clicking on the file exclusion button, you will see a window that will allow you to customize the file types that will not be backed up. To add a file type, select it in the left-hand window, or enter the file extension in the box on the bottom-left, and click the add button. To remove a file type, select it in the right-hand list and click the remove button.

Mac

After clicking on the file exclusion button, you will see a window that will allow you to customize the file types that will not be backed up. To exlude a file type, click the add... button and make a selection. To remove a file type, select it in the list and click the remove button.

Notifications and Warnings

There are three options to select in this section.

"Show the status window" (Mac®)
"Show progress bar when backup updates" (PC)

If you check this box a status window or progress bar will be displayed when Iomega Quik Sync 2 is running to give you visual confirmation that your files are being backed up.

"Warn me if my disk is not in the drive"

If you check "Warn me if my disk is not in the drive," Iomega Quik Sync 2 will warn you when your Quik Sync 2 backup disk is not inserted. If this warning is turned off and your disk is not inserted, Iomega Quik Sync 2 will suspend backups without warning until you insert the Quik Sync 2 backup disk. This warning is on by default.

"Warn me when my disk is getting full"

If you check "Warn me when my disk is getting full," Iomega Quik Sync 2 will notify you when your Quik Sync 2 backup disk is at least 75% full. When your disk is completely full, you will be notified. You will want to date the full Iomega Quik Sync 2 backup disk for archive. Then insert a new backup disk for Iomega Quik Sync 2 to use and click OK in the dialog box to continue.

NOTE: Iomega Quik Sync 2 does not remember the current revision numbering across disks. For example, if the file My Document.doc was up to revision five (My Document (5).doc) when your disk was filled, Iomega Quik Sync 2 will save the next revision to your new disk as My Document (1).doc. It is very important that you date your Iomega Quik Sync 2 disks so that you can find revisions by date.
